Congratulations to the winners!

We congratulate GM Andriy Vovk from Ukraine with winning the GM-group at Fagernes,
ahead of GM Boris Chatalbashev from Bulgaria.

The IM-group was won by Norwegian IM Espen Lie and the Elo-group by Norwegian Aleksander Lindbøl.

Three title norms 

Three title norms were made during TV 2 Fagernes International 2017:

 

Fagernes Easter Blitz NGP

Fagernes Easter Blitz NGP was played 15th April after the round in the main tournament. There were 48 participants in two rating groups.

The A-group was won by IM Johan-Sebastian Christiansen, last year's Norwegian blitz champion. Christiansen scored 7.5 points in 9 rounds and was half a point ahead of Garg Aradhya from India. Belarusian IM Valeriy Kazakovskiy took third place, like he did in the rapid.
 
In the B-group (rating under 1500) Lars Martin Krogseth took clear first with 8 points from 9 games. Kazim Yilmaz and Odd Ristesund ended up with 6.5 points.

Title norm demands before the last round:

FM Sarin Nihal: Has taken IM-norm. Needs draw for GM-norm.
FM Benjamin Arvola: Has taken IM-norm. Needs draw for GM-norm.
WGM Marsel Efroimski: Needs draw for IM-norm.
FM Sebastian Mihajlov : Needs draw for IM-norm.

Fagernes Easter Rapid NGP

Fagernes Easter Rapid NGP was played 13th-14th April, in the evening after the main tournament. There were 34 participants.

12 year old FM Nihal Sarin from India took clear first place with 5.5 points in 6 games.

FM Lucas Ranaldi took second place, while Belarusian IM Valeriy Kazakovskiy was third.

TV 2 new main sponsor


We are happy to annonce that TV 2 will be the main sponsor of the Fagernes tournament.
The new tournament name will be TV 2 Fagernes International.

TV 2, which is Norway's largest commercial broadcaster, will have extensive coverage of Altibox Norway Chess in June.
